Use your hours for any workplace matter.

Legal Advice is not limited to policy reviews. Bring any employment or workplace question to your lawyer and use your time the way your situation actually needs.

Terminations and severance

Plan a departure, review a package, and lower the risk of a wrongful dismissal claim.

Layoffs and restructuring

Work through notice, recall rights, and process before you announce changes.

Accommodation and human rights

Handle the duty to accommodate, medical information, and undue hardship the right way.

Workplace investigations

Get guidance on scope, process, and findings for harassment or misconduct complaints.

Discipline and performance

Pressure test a performance plan or a disciplinary step before it becomes a dispute.

Employment contracts

Review offer letters, agreements, and clauses for enforceability in your province.

Employment standards

Confirm your approach to hours, overtime, leaves, and pay aligns with current law.

Workplace policies

Validate a policy against current legislation in the jurisdictions you operate in.

Harassment and violence

Meet your obligations for prevention, response, and reporting.

If it touches your workplace, it is fair game for a session.

Legal advice shouldn’t be a fire drill. It should be one step away.

Outside counsel takes days to call back, a search result is not advice, and the cost of getting it wrong lands on you.

Who you are talking to

Advice is only as good as the people giving it. Every session is with Simes Law, a boutique employment law firm that works exclusively with Canadian employers.

Employment law is what they do best

Hiring, terminations, contracts, accommodations, investigations, leaves. Whatever you bring sits squarely in their wheelhouse, and the advice is current and practical.

Real lawyers, not a queue

You work directly with experienced counsel who take the time to understand your situation, rather than a call centre reading from a script.

Questions before you book.

What counts as a workplace matter?

Almost anything involving your employees or your obligations as an employer: terminations, accommodation, investigations, restructuring, contracts, employment standards, policies, harassment and violence, and leaves. Policy review is one use, not the only one.

How do my hours work?

Your subscription includes a set number of hours each period. Hours are reserved when you book and deducted only after a session is completed. You can purchase more if you need them.

How soon can I book?

Book any available time from the Simes Law lawyer pool. Flag a session as time sensitive and it is prioritized for lawyer review.

Can colleagues join?

Yes. Add additional attendees when you book and they receive the calendar invite once the session is confirmed.

Is it confidential?

Yes. Sessions are protected by solicitor-client privilege, and First Reference does not access the content of your session.

Which provinces are covered?

Choose one or more provinces, federally regulated, or all jurisdictions when you book, and you are matched accordingly.

Your next workplace decision doesn’t have to be a guess.
